STUDENTS from Flixton Girls School (FGS) had the opportunity to attend Central Manchester University Hospital Norgen Centre recently as part of the Trust Open Day for Young People.

The focus of the event was to provide young people with information about a wide range of careers within the National Health Service (NHS).

Professionals from a variety of NHS sectors including doctors, dentists, health visitors, geneticists and medical engineers provided insider knowledge about their specialist subject. The students were also shown volunteering pathways to further their experiences and potential career planning.

Students took part in quizzes, laboratory tasks and fun interactive activities. They also got to test a new health app in the special 'Looking After you’ area while having the chance to talk to governors about what health priorities are important to them.

Ruth Mulholland, from Central Manchester University Hospital, said: "FGS students were very pleasant and well mannered. They are a credit to the school and it was evident that a great deal of preparation had taken place prior to the visit. The students asked well thought out, mature questions and we hope that we have sparked some interest in them joining us at the NHS one day."
