GOLF fans and amateurs can get into the swing of it at the revamped Altrincham Driving Range.

On Saturday June 18, Altrincham Driving Range was officially reopened by the Mayor of Trafford Judith Lloyd and the Mayoress Noelle Ryder.

In February 2016 the driving range, located at Altrincham Golf Course, was handed back to Trafford Council to be managed by Trafford Leisure.

Since the handover, the council and Trafford Leisure have made significant investment and completed substantial works to the facility.

This includes the recruitment of a new team, including new resident golf professional, James Curtis.

Jo Cherrett, chief operating officer for Trafford Leisure, said: “The driving range allows us to fully provide a complete golf offer for the community. For a sport like golf, the importance of learning to play the game is paramount and as such we are hugely excited to have this facility under our management. The range truly allows us to offer ‘golf for all’ and we are encouraging everyone, all ages, abilities and gender to come and learn and play.”

Cllr Lloyd did the honours of cutting the ribbon at the upgraded driving range before receiving a quick beginner lesson from James.

General Manager Paul Murray said: “Since we took over the range in February we have worked really hard to get the facility up to standard and open. There has been a massive input from everyone; including Trafford Council, the green keepers, shop staff and the new coaching team led by James Curtis.

“I’m excited for the future of golf in Trafford, and the opening of the range is just the start of the plans we have for delivering ‘golf for all’ .”
