THE Salvation Army threw open the doors to its latest charity shop in Altrincham this week.

The doors were officially opened by the charity’s Divisional Commander, Major Alan Watters, on the morning of Wednesday June 15.

A crowd gathered outside 101 George Street to warmly welcome the new charity shop, which will play a vital role in raising money for The Salvation Army to help vulnerable people in communities across the UK.

Major Alan Watters, Divisional Commander for Central North at The Salvation Army, said: "It was wonderful to officially open the new Salvation Army charity shop in Altrincham. We're delighted that the new shop will give us greater opportunities to engage with the community and look forward to hearing of its success."

The most unusual sale of the opening day was to a customer who bought a singing and dancing unicorn toy, which can retail for up to £100 and was sold for £40.

Area manager Ann Penny said: “We had a fantastic welcome from the local community at the opening. The shop was busy all day – I think it’ll quickly establish itself as a favourite in Altrincham.

“We’re on the look-out for volunteers and I’d like to encourage anybody who’s interested to pop in and have a chat about what’s involved. We rely on the generosity of our volunteers – if you think you can spare any time at all, from a few hours to a few days a week, you will be helping to make a huge difference.”
