TIMPERLEY Villa Youth FC is hoping that three is its lucky number.

The club has been shortlisted in three categories at the Cheshire FA Awards 2016.

The awards champion those involved in grassroots football who make a real difference to how the game is played and developed.

Award nominations were determined through a mixture of public nominations as well as internal nominations, with contributions from District FAs and Leagues.

Cheshire FA representatives and previous winners were then tasked with compiling the shortlist.

Timperley Villa Youth FC is a finalist in the Respect and Fair Play Award category, club secretary Andy Gorman is in the running for Administrator of the Year and former chair Sheila Saddington is shortlisted for Welfare Officer of the Year.

Timperley resident Andy, who juggles club commitments with his job as a science teacher at Blessed Thomas Holford, said he was ‘very pleased’ to make the shortlist.

The 48-year-old became involved with the club after his eldest son joined the under 8s team; he managed the team from U9 through to U18.

He is assistant manager of his youngest son’s team, as well as holding position as the club secretary. Past roles in club welfare officer and acting chair.

“Hopefully my nomination reflects the overall efficient and smooth way that the club is run by all concerned not just me,” he said.

“I owe a big thanks to my long suffering wife for putting up with me spending so much time on the club, as well as the two teams I have been involved in.”

Andy also congratulated Sheila Saddington on her nomination. Sheila was chairman for ten years and helped oversee the development of girls’ football at the club.

“I am really pleased that Sheila has been nominated for an award as League Welfare Officer,” he added. “As our club chair for a number of years, she has played a key role in building and developing the club to what it is now.”

The third award nomination reflects Timperley Villa players’ dedication to the FA’s Respect campaign.

Richard McIlroy, the club’s media secretary, said: “The Respect nomination says a lot about how much emphasis Andy and the club place on behaviour and playing the game in the right way.

“We place an emphasis on enjoyment and team work over results, it’s made very clear to parents and players that we respect opposition players and parents and referees.”

The winners and runners-up will be announced at the 2016 Cheshire FA Awards Evening on June 3 at Carden Park Hotel, in Chester.

Simon Gerrard, Cheshire FA chief executive, said: "This is a fantastic chance for us to recognise those volunteers, coaches, clubs and leagues that sacrifice so much on a weekly basis and say thank you to them for their hard work and dedication in enhancing the standards of grassroots football in Cheshire.

"Football is constantly evolving and we are delighted to have a variety of finalists this year that have shown best practice in areas that we believe are going to have a key impact on grassroots football in the coming years."
