KIND-hearted volunteers who make gowns for children of all ages in hospital have been given a much-needed boost.

Wrap Pyjama Fairies, based in Partington, is celebrating after receiving a £300 donation from the GALAXY Hot Chocolate Fund.

The organisation makes pyjamas and surgical gowns for children who are in hospital for long term treatments, tests or surgery.

Given free of charge, the gowns help to bring comfort and support to young patients and their families while in hospital. Made from bright fabrics, the gowns and pyjamas are specially designed with front openings to allow ease of access for medical professionals.

Amanda Chadwick, who co-founded Wrap Pyjamas with Chelsea Williams and Kayleigh Whitton, said: “Dependent on the size each set costs between £5 and £25 to make and we rely totally on donations and fundraising. This donation from the GALAXY Hot Chocolate Fund means that we can now purchase enough fabric to help another 60 families.”

The idea for Wrap Pyjama Fairies was borne after Amanda Chadwick, who lives in Partington, gave birth to Nevaeh who had congenital heart disease.

The gown she made for her daughter caught the eye of another mum and Amanda realised there was a demand for such items.

Chelsea and Kayleigh, who both hail from Wales, got on board and Wrap Pyjama Fairies now have 62 sewers helping to make the gowns.

Michelle Frost, spokeswoman for GALAXY Hot Chocolate said: “We know that across the UK and Ireland smaller charities and community groups are struggling to make ends meet despite the efforts of a huge number of warm-hearted volunteers.

“The GALAXY Hot Chocolate Fund aims to give them a helping hand and hopefully inspire more people to get involved.”
