AN armed robber threatened staff with a large knife before fleeing with a stash of cash from a Greggs shop in Urmston.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man held up the chain sandwich shop, in Eden Square, Golden Way, just after 5pm on Monday January 25.

The man walked behind the counter, grabbed a member of staff by the arm and ordered the safe to be opened. He threatened staff with the knife but told them they would not get hurt if they did as they were told.

He then fled the scene with a large bag of cash.

Detective Constable Amanda Tootill said: “This man targeted the store just as it was about to close and two members of staff who were getting ready to go home were instead faced with a man waving a knife in their faces.

“This was a terrifying experience for staff and I urge people to think back and report anything suspicious they might remember to police.”

The man is described as white, 6-6ft 2in tall, slim build, mid 20s to early 30s with dark coloured eyes.

He spoke in a local accent and wore a black three quarter length jacket with hood pulled up, dark blue jeans, grey scarf partially covering his face and black gloves and trainers.

Witnesses or anyone who may have information about this crime should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
