OLADAMOLA Babalola, a 26-year-old cancer survivor from Partington, is calling for people across the North West to get involved in Wig Wednesday on May 20.

This annual fundraiser for children and young people’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent sees thousands of people across the UK wearing wacky wigs to work and school and raising vital funds to support its work.

Oladamola - known as Babz - was supported by CLIC Sargent throughout treatment after he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer, on his 21st birthday. Despite undergoing intense chemotherapy Babz continued and graduated from his course at Liverpool University the same month that his treatment ended. He moved to Manchester two years ago and founded FreshRB, a multimedia production company, which is based on Warburton Lane, Partington. Babz said: “CLIC Sargent is a charity close to my heart and I hope even more people in Manchester and right across the North West sign up and get wiggy for this amazing charity.

“Its work helping children, young people and their families cope with cancer is entirely funded by people’s donations, and it makes a massive difference.”

Lindsay Kay, CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager, said: “The funds raised from Wig Wednesday will go towards providing practical, emotional and financial support for children and young people like Babz.

“Every day 10 children and young people are given the devastating news they have cancer and CLIC Sargent is then there to provide emotional, practical and financial support every step of the way.

“It’s not too late to get involved in this year’s Wig Wednesday. Don’t mullet over, sign up today!”
