TRAFFORD'S Society for Abandoned Animals (SAA) is appealing for help to maintain the shelter’s safety, following a recent blaze.

While the cause is still being investigated, the fire, on April 12, started in an area with old buildings where scrap items are stored by the charity, which is based at Mosley Acre Farm, near the boundary of Sale and Stretford.

Sanctuary manager at the SAA, Natasha Woest, said the shelter is desperately seeking help from demolition and scrap removal companies, in order to ensure the safety of all animals and staff and prevent blazes from breaking out again.

She says: “Although the flames luckily didn’t reach any of the animal care units, we’re now left with a pile of refuse almost 20 metres wide and 25 metres high that urgently needs removing, in addition to unsafe old buildings that we would like demolished.

“We endeavour to keep the society a safe place for all volunteers and animals that are under our care, so we’d really appreciate any help at all from businesses that offer these services.”

The charity has successfully rehomed more than 120 dogs, 1,000 cats and 340 rabbits over the past five years.

In addition to donations, the society looks for volunteers to help it carry out its work.

Natasha added: “If there are any companies that feel they could help out and get involved, or alternatively donate funds to replace the items we lost in the fire, please do get in touch as soon as possible.”
