TRAFFORD Council will host a candle designed by Sir Anish Kapoor as part of a national initiative that sees 70 candles lit at Holocaust Memorial Day events across the UK on January 27, marking the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Sons of Holocaust survivor Chaim Ferster will light the candle at Waterside Arts Centre to begin a moment of reflection honouring the survivors of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides. The event, which has participation from six secondary schools across Trafford, was chosen from hundreds of applications sent to the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, the charity responsible for marking Holocaust Memorial Day in the UK.

A small number of spaces are still available for this invitation only event. Anyone interested in attending please call 0161 912 4418.

The candle will also be on display at Waterside Arts Centre in the week prior to the event..
