At around 11.50pm on September 6, the 25-year-old victim bumped into the offender while making his way to the toilet inside the King's Ransom, on Northenden Road.
Following a brief argument, the offender punched the man with one hand before smashing a glass he was holding in his other hand into the side of his face.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment to lacerations to his face.
The offender is described as white, 25 years old, of medium build, 5ft 10in tall with a shaved head.
Detective Constable Jon Lloyd, said: "This was a violent and unprovoked assault on a man enjoying a night out in the pub.
"Smashing a glass into someone's face is as excessive as it is unnecessary and it is fortunate the man was not blinded or even killed.
