KATE Green is calling for a 20mph speed limit in built up areas in Trafford.

The Stretford and Urmston MP has added her voice to the GO 20 campaign to make 20mph the urban speed limit.

She spoke at an event held in Parliament by Brake, the road safety charity.

She said: “I’m really pleased to support Brake’s GO 20 Campaign.

“Evidence shows that 20 mph speed limits do lead to safer, stronger communities, and better survival rates in the event of an accident.

"I believe that implementing lower speed limits in residential areas across Trafford would go a long way towards solving some of the speeding issues that I know concern many local residents.”

A speed limit of 20mph is one of the many issues that Ms Green has campaigned on since the launch of her Safer Trafford Streets campaign last year in response to the road safety concerns of residents.

Eight in 10 people across the UK believe 20mph should be the norm around schools, on residential streets, and in village, town and city centres, according to a survey by Brake and Allianz Insurance.
