THE Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has organised a Christmas market in Urmston’s Eden Square to mark Small Business Saturday on December 5.

The not-for-profit business support group has arranged the event in Urmston Library where 20 market stall holders will be selling a wide variety of goods from handmade jewellery, bags, sweets, chocolates, craft items – as well as hot mulled wine.

Two team of students from Trafford College and St Ambrose will also be present on the day and selling goods they’ve produced as part of the Young Enterprise charity’s schools’ programme – an initiative to encourage entrepreneurship in youngsters.

MP Kate Green will be popping down to the market to show her support for Small Business Saturday - a campaign now in its fourth year in the UK which encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ on the busiest retail day of the year.

Simon Edmondson, FSB regional chairman for Greater Manchester and North Cheshire said: “Small Business Saturday is ultimately about the public supporting their local independent traders, and hopefully our market will encourage more people to come Christmas shopping in Urmston town centre.

“Small Business Saturday is getting bigger every year, and we thought a market was a great way to celebrate grass roots retailing and entrepreneurship."

He added: “Urmston will be buzzing with Christmas shoppers on December 5, we’d like them all to come to our festive market and see if they can find an unusual gift, and of course enjoy a glass of hot mulled wine.”
