THIS year marks the anniversary of 500 years of worship on the site of the church on Sunbank Lane, Ringway.

To celebrate the landmark, a Heritage Open Day will be held at on September 13th. It will include competitions for the children, visual displays and costumed guides.

The first church on the site is mentioned in the Domesday Book and was built for the tenants of the Earl of Derby, when it was known as Ringey Chapel.

The present building, consecrated by the Bishop of Chester in 1895, was called St Mary and All Saints and was active until 1970.

After 40 years of closure during which it was used for other purposes, the church was purchased by the Adventist Church five years ago and is once again a place of worship, now known as Ringway Life Building.

Members of the church are planning the Heritage Day event and are appealing to anyone who had a connection with St Mary's and All Saints - perhaps a family wedding, or Sunday School attendance, for example - to get in touch, so that their memories can be added to the church's history.

Photographs of weddings or christenings would be particularly valued.

Christine Comrie can be contacted on 01625 535722 if you are able to contribute a memory.
