TRAFFORD’S Local Studies at Sale Waterside, welcomed guests from the North Cheshire Family History Society recently.
As well as a tour of the archive, the Society members were given a demonstration of the latest piece of high-tech equipment, a new overhead digital scanner - purchased thanks to their generous, £575 donation.
This came about when the society decided it wanted to use some of its funds to benefit the archive community and chose Trafford Local Studies.
The scanner means thousands of fragile archive documents, some dating back to the 1500s, can now be copied for both current and future generations.
Among the items demonstrated on the day included original 16th Century archive documents which were digitalised and the images linked to the online archives catalogue at the touch of a button.
