PEOPLE are being urged to support the Greater Manchester Marathon as it passes through Altrincham on Sunday morning.

The race starts and finishes at Old Trafford and its halfway point is Altrincham, where the leaders pass the Interchange just after 10am followed for the next 2-3 hours by a steady stream of runners.

The route takes them along Stamford New Road, up Regent Road, along Market Street, down Post Office Street and Kingsway to the halfway point on Stamford Street before heading back towards Old Trafford.

Angela Stone of the Altrincham Town Centre Partnership said: “The weather forecast is looking good, so there can be no excuse for not coming along for the race itself and then staying in town for lunch and a little bit of shopping.

"Altrincham has won the prize voted for by the runners as the best supporting community for the past two years and it showcases the positive aspects of the town if we can do so again.

"Don’t miss this event – the atmosphere is brilliant and it promises to be a great day for everyone.”
