THE Altrincham Muslim Association hosted an afternoon tea at the Islamic Cultural Centre in Hale for National Islam Awareness Week.

Women from the Altrincham Muslim Association were inspired to set up a knitting group after hearing about the 'fish and chip' babies in Uganda from the members of the knitting group of Timperley Methodist Church.

These are babies from families so poor that they are sent home wrapped in newspaper . The knitting club members knit blankets and send them over to Uganda .

They also knit for Wythenshawe special care baby unit hospital and hospice shops

Those attending enjoyed a beautifully written poem called 'Blending In', by Jewish guests at the centre. This is about how it feels to be part of a minority group trying to mix into mainstream society at school.

Volunteers from the Timperley Food Bank, based at Timperley Methodist Church, reported on the important work they do. The Islamic Cultural Centre is a regular donor to the foodbank.
