THE FAMILY of a Chorlton girl are backing the launch of an appeal to provide specialist equipment for children with disabilities in the Manchester area.

Ella Cummins has learning difficulties and struggles to walk because of rigid muscles.

She was among 26 children with disabilities or a terminal illness who needed specialist equipment in Greater Manchester.

Through the help of Newlife, the leading UK children’s disability charity, the three-year-old was offered a walker giving her support.

The charity launched a Greater Manchester Fund for people to help disabled children in the area.

Special equipment includes wheelchairs, walkers and communication aids which can help give children independence.

It has already helped 219 children in Greater Manchester through equipment grants and loans totalling to more than £204,260.
