A PROJECT to improve biodiversity by using ancient skills to manage hedgerow and woodland habitats will commence at Trafford Water Sports Centre on February 17.

Environmental charity, the Conservation Volunteers, are leding the project and are aiming to get local people involved through a series of training courses in hedgelaying and coppicing which members of the public are invited to attend.

Following a successful fundraising campaign courses will run in February, March, October and November 2015 with the first training course taking place over two days on February 17 and 18.

Ally Taylor, the project’s manager, said: “We are excited to be able to offer volunteers and members of the public the chance to take part in preserving their local greenspace.”

The project has been funded by the Veolia Environmental Trust and Red Rose Forrest.
