THE play area in Stretford's Victoria Park is to close for four weeks for improvement works.

Trafford Council is advising people who use the play area that it will be closed from September 5, to allow safety surfacing to be carried out.

Executive councillor for Environment and Operations, John Reilly, said: "We know how popular all our parks are with local people and Victoria Park is no exception.

"We understand people will be disappointed that the play area has had to close temporarily, but we are determined to make sure the work is completed speedily so the play area can reopen as soon as possible."

A council spokesman said: "The work is part of the council's ongoing commitment to ensure that the highest possible standards are maintained in all its parks.

"These efforts are supported by many dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers from Trafford's many Friends of Parks groups, who work closely with council staff in managing and improving these valuable green spaces for local communities to enjoy."

It is expected that the improvement work will be completed by Friday, October 3.
