TRAFFORD Council is being urged to apply for a Government grant to help repair potholes blighting the borough’s roads.
The Department for Transport is hoping to repair up to three million potholes across the country by providing £168 million funding to help make roads safer and smoother for motorists and cyclists.
Successful local authorities will need to sign a Pothole Pledge as a condition of the funding which will state the number of potholes they will have repaired by March 2015.
Transport Seceratary Patrick McLoughlin said: “Potholes are a menace for all road users which is why this extra funding is provided.
He added: “With this new pothole fund councils will need to clearly set out the scale of the work they are doing, and local communities can have certainty that the money is being spent fixing potholes on their local roads.”
