TRAFFORD'S teenage fundraising star has helped to make wishes come true for terminally ill children, by holding an evening of forties festivities.

Attendees to Kirsty Ashton's latest fundraiser would be forgiven for thinking they'd entered a time machine, as the King George pub in Altrincham was transported back 60 years, with corned beef hash as the dish of the day, flags and bunting adorning the bar and even WWII military vehicles standing guard at the door.

Kirsty, Trafford's young citizen of the year, said: "The pub looked great and the food of the forties went down a treat. Almost 100 people attended the event, mainly dressed in 1940's attire; I was dressed as an evacuee.

The main event of the night was the auction of a limited edition, signed David Shepherd print and a signed photo of the entire cast of Coronation Street, which was later presented to Kirsty as a gift from the winning bidder.

With the help of a donation of £500 from The Royal Mail charity trust fundraising programme, the event managed to raise £1,400 for the Wishing On A Star charity - sending terminally ill children to visit Santa in Lapland.

Kirsty, a student of South Trafford College, added: "Thank you so much for all your support, I have been truly touched by your kindness."
