Kids on their school holidays are in constant need of entertainment, making the summer holidays demanding.

However activities such as making your own ice lollies, means that summer doesn’t have to break the bank.

Kayleigh Hughes at PromotionalCodes.org.uk says, “During the hotter months everyone wants to make the most of the beautiful weather.

“Kids can get easily bored during their summer holidays, causing stresses for a family.

“Getting creative is key to keeping them happy whilst being able to spend quality time together.”

Below are ten ideas for cheap summer entertainment that the whole family can enjoy:

1. Family picnic

Picnics are perfect ways to spend some quality time with the family and can also be a nice way to relax. Going to the supermarket to grab some finger food and laying down a rug is cheap and easy and should set you back no more than £10.

2. Make your own ice lollies

Get creative making your own ice lollies with as many different colours or flavours as you desire. This is ideal for kids but can also be fun for adults by adding a cocktail theme to your lollies. Depending on how many flavoured drinks you buy and the cost of the lolly moulds this should come to no more than £10.

3. Go camping

If you’re feeling adventurous this can be done further afield, but if not a back garden works fine. Pitch up a tent, get cosy, and share some spooky stories. If you already own a tent this activity is completely free!

4. Host your own Olympics

Devising some sporting activities to do in your garden is a fun way of staying active whilst enjoying the sun. The activities can range from running races to make shift obstacle courses. If your activities don’t involve equipment this activity is completely free! If you choose to buy some props, they are cheap and should come to no more than £5.

5. Outdoor cinema night

Lay down a rug and some comfy cushions, set up your laptop outside, and gather plenty of snacks for a cosy alfresco film night with the family. If you own a projector, hanging a white bed sheet and projecting your film onto it can provide an even more realistic cinema experience. This activity only costs around £3 spent on the snacks.

6. Visit your local swimming pool

Having a family trip to your local swimming pool is a fun way to get some exercise and for the kids to burn off some excess energy. Most swimming pools charge about £2 per person.

7. Get artistic with squirt gun painting

This one is best to do in the garden as it can get messy. Set up some big sheets of A3 paper, fill up a squirt gun with watercolour paint and then fire at the canvas to create a masterpiece. Squirt guns are cheap to buy online, coming to no more than £7 for a multipack.

8. Be home tourists

Exploring some sights or museums in your hometown is often something that gets overlooked due to living somewhere for a while. This activity allows you to get outdoors and active whilst learning about the history of your town. Potentially free depending on the cost of any local museums you visit.

9. Go strawberry picking

10. Go kite flying

Get the whole family involved in a kite flying session on windy days or even at the beach. Most kites cost around £10, unless you’re feeling really creative and decide to make your kite at home using old fabric.
