ASHTON on Mersey School is delighted to celebrate the achievements of the class of 2011.

This year saw yet another increase in exam results making the class of 2011 a record breaking year.

Fifty-nine per cent of students achieved 5 A*- C and 90 per cent of students achieved 5 A*-G.

More than half - 55 per cent - achieved 5 A*-C, including English, maths and two sciences. More than a third - 35 per cent - of students achieved three or more top grades (A*/A).

Standout GCSE performances at the highest level, A*/A, were achieved by Emily Burgoine (15½), Laura Benson (15) and Charlotte Vernon (12½). Toby Steer and Gary Chan also achieved all top grades gaining 10½ and 10 A*/A GCSE’s respectively. The highest number of A*-C grades were awarded to Harley McFarlane (22½), twins Joshua and Oliver Griffiths (both achieved 22½) and Emma Knowles (21½).

The school is particularly proud of the record breaking achievements of its younger pupils (Year 9), with 47 per cent achieving A*-C in GCSE Spanish and 55 per cent GCSE statistics.

Results were equally impressive in the sixth form. The A2 results improved on the first cohort of 2010 and reflected the hard work put in by both students and staff in the preparation towards the examinations. Fifty-four per centof all passes were achieved at the A* - C threshold and 95 per cent of all exams were achieved at A* -E.
