Bowls charity match raises £2,000 for Francis House Children’s Hospice
8:30am Monday 24th August 2009 in News
A DAVYHULME social club raised more than £2,000 during a three-day Crown Green Bowls charity fundraiser for Francis House Children’s Hospice, in Didsbury.
Bowlers from the Ladies Urmston League battled it out in a tournament that saw 80 women compete for the winner’s trophy, while raising money for the charity which supports children with life-threatening conditions and their families.
Sylvia Adderley, who runs the social club, described how the 10 clubs in the league hold the event annually between them and raise money for different charities through sales of tea and coffee, cakes and bric-a-brac items.
She said: “There was great comradery over the three days and it is a great way to help a local charity. I would like to thank everyone who took part.”
The club, in Cornhill Road, Urmston, has been taking part in the event for more than 30 years and presented hospice fundraiser Kate Puc with a cheque for £2,389.
