Potholes are important election issue
3:00pm Friday 16th April 2010 in Trafford Potholes By Jessica Bell
The junction of Shaftesbury Avenue and Aimson Road East is an "accident waiting to happed"
TRAFFORD residents who are concerned about potholes are not alone as nationally, potholes are one of the most important issues for voters.
According to a Ipsos MORI survey for the RAC Foundation, published on April 9, more than three-quarters of adults think potholes and damaged roads are a big problem in their area.
The research revealed that more than 50 per cent of people are dissatisfied with road maintenance.
In Trafford, potholes are a big issue, and a number of residents have contacted the Messenger regarding road issues in their area.
Timperley resident Angela Jenkinson said work needs to be done on the junction of Shaftesbury Avenue and Aimson Road East as there are lots of potholes in a small area.
“This junction has been reported many times and is occasionally patched up. The council has promised 'major works' but this junction needs attention now, it is an accident waiting to happen.
“Someone is going to break their car’s suspension or be knocked sideways into a pedestrian before very long,” she said.
A spokesperson for Trafford Council said they were aware of the need for resurfacing work at the junction of Shaftesbury Avenue and Aimson Road East.
“This location has been listed as part of a programme that we hope to carry out over the coming months.
“In the meantime, we will continue to check the area to see whether any temporary repairs are necessary to achieve an acceptable level of safety,” she said.
Highway defects can be reported online at www.trafford.gov.uk or by calling 01619122000.

Not all our roads are perfect, but people in Trafford don't know they're born sometimes.
