A CAMPAIGN to install live-saving defibrillators in schools across the country has won the backing of a leading Trafford politician.
Altrincham and Sale West MP Sir Graham Brady lent his support to a campaign to have life saving equipment in all schools after meeting with Mark King, whose 12-year-old son, Oliver, died suddenly after winning a swimming race at the King David School, on Merseyside.
It is estimated that the condition known as SADS, a hidden heart condition, kills 12 young people every week.
Since his son’s death, Mr King has established The Oliver King Foundation in his memory.
The foundation estimates that the subsequent fundraising work, which has installed two thousand defibrillators across the UK in public building including schools, has helped save 19 lives.
In January, 2020, Oliver would have turned 21, by which time the foundation is hoping that every school across the UK will have access to a lifesaving defibrillator.
Sir Graham said: “The foundation is an excellent charity aiming to introduce defibrillators into schools. It is a simple and effective way of saving young lives.”
