TRAFFORD schools have earned top marks in a national league table of primary schools.

They include an Altrincham school that is celebrating after being recognised as the top primary in the north west of England.

Altrincham C of E Aided Primary School came 15th in the Sunday Times top 250 English state Primary Schools table.

That meant it was the top ranked primary not just in Trafford, but in the north west of England.

It just pipped Park Road Sale which came 16th in the list.

Two other Trafford schools, Stamford Park Junior School in Hale (57th) and Bowdon C of E Primary (59th), were also in the top 250.

Geoff Reyner, the chairman of governors at Altrincham C of E Aided Primary School, said: "This is excellent news and a real boost to all of us at Altrincham C of E.

"It reflects a huge amount of hard work by all the staff at the school and our wonderful pupils.

"Our belief in nurturing and educating children within the Christian faith is central to our core and this reflects in the harmonious and friendly atmosphere within the school.

"We have a welcoming attitude to all which helps create a relaxed and creative milieu for the children to learn and play as they work towards their next level of schooling.

"We have always been able to send pupils to both of the highly-rated Altrincham Grammar Schools over the years.

"We are the top primary school in Trafford and it would seem, the whole of the North of England – well done to everyone. “

Altrincham C of E has been classed by Ofsted as an outstanding school.

Stamford Park headteacher, Cathy Downing, said: "We are absolutely thrilled with this achievement.

"It is recognition of the talent and dedication of our pupils and staff, who make our school such a strong and supportive community.

"As always, I would like to thank our parents for the ongoing support that they give to the school."
