STUDENTS at Flixton's Wellacre Academy have made a touching tribute to the Manchester Arena bomb victims.

Pupils from each year group used their art lessons to make more than 100 red roses with 22 white roses as a simple tribute to the victims of the atrocity.

Humanities students have also helped to prepare messages for a chain of hope.

Organised by Claire Niebel, leader of art, and Jayne de Costa, photography teacher, the students were encouraged to ask questions and discuss their thoughts in response to the events while paying their respect by drawing, cutting and making their roses.

Jayne Irwin, leader of RE and Yasmin Chowdhury, Teacher of Humanities, supported the students to help them express their thoughts and feelings through messages, poetry and creative writing. The students, using what they had written, helped to create a Chain of Hope.

The chain has been placed alongside the other tributes in the centre of Manchester by Ms. Chowdhury.

The completed roses and poem, written by Max Hannon of Year 7, are now on display in the school's main reception as a tribute to all of the innocent victims and their families.

The poem reads: 'We will not separate. We will only join. We learn.

Manchester's few that unfortunately died may not be on the streets, but always in the heart.

I learn to help.'

Further discussion and support has been provided throughout the week via year group

assemblies and during form time, specifically before and after last Thursday's perfectly observed

and overwhelmingly poignant minute's silence.
