FLIXTON Girls School celebrated student success with an evening to recognise their academic achievements.

Headteacher Julie Hazeldine commented: ‘At the heart of our work at FGS is the deep understanding that academic success is dependent on many things including ambition, self-belief, self-confidence and a ‘can-do’ attitude.

"Our partnership with the Outward Bound Trust and the Youth Sports Trust opens up a world of opportunity alongside phenomenal role models, enabling our girls to challenge themselves, to build resilience and character."

She said the school is especially proud of its academic success in external examinations recognised nationally by the SSAT and putting it fifth best in the country for similar schools in 2015/16.

The Class of 2016 school leavers returned to celebrate their academic successes. Many of the students were nominated for a variety of awards/cups with more than 25 winners.

They included retiring head girl Sandeep Kaur, who won the headteacher’s award for service to the school. Plus Emily Bates, a current sixth form Year 12 student, won two prizes - the Curie Cup for science and The Fathers Cup for Olympic legacy.
