HUNDREDS of students are now anti-bullying champions thanks to a huge training session at Old Trafford last week.

A total of 230 pupils took part in The Diana Award Anti-Bullying Ambassadors regional training day at the stadium of dreams on Thursday November 17.

The event was hosted by the Manchester United Foundation and Trafford Council secured a grant from the Ben Cohen Stand Up Foundation to pay for the training provided.

Cllr Michael Hyman, executive councillor for children’s services, said the session provided fantastic opportunities for students to come together, share ideas and good practice in a fun environment.

He said: “Trafford is acknowledged as having some of the country’s best educational environments and opportunities for local children and young people. This goes a lot deeper than just examination results.

“Everyone within the school environment is committed to making sure students are feeling, safe, secure and supported during their time in school. Bullying is something that will not be tolerated, but sometimes where a student is experiencing a problem, they may not want to speak to an adult.

“The Anti-Bullying Ambassadors play a key role in supporting those who maybe concerned. The knowledge and inspiration they have taken away from the training days will stand them in good stead in their school environments.

“I would like to thank everyone that took part for their commitment to providing peer support in school as well as working with teachers and others to ensure all our schools continue to target any instances of bullying in schools.”
