The corridors at Urmston Grammar were filled with hopeful students awaiting their GCSE results on Thursday.

The mood of anticipation amongst Year 11 students and their parents soon turned to elation as they celebrated the school’s best ever results – with a record number of A* and A grades.

Principal Riffat Wall said: “The hard work, time and effort that has been invested by so many students has paid dividends; students demonstrated a conscientious and determined approach to their studies and we are proud of their academic achievements.”

A remarkable 28 students achieved A* or As in all their subjects: Chloe Adams, Dayna Baker, Olivia Bannerman, Nuala Becket, Ashleigh Blood, Aparna Bose, Chloe Briggs, Ellie Carter, Bradley Cook, Finn Daly, Alex Gould, Matthew Graham, Charlie Hadfield, Brandon Harris, Eleanor Hickman, Amy Jackson, Alex Lay, Ellis Lindop, Hidayah Ma, Bethany Molyneux, Jessica Molyneux, Phoebe Myres, James Neve, Daniel Ramsden, Sophie Sampson, Israel Shitta, James Smirthwaite-Curran and Amy Wright.

“The outstanding results this summer are testament to the commitment and hard work of our students. I know they are appreciative of the support they have received from staff and their parents throughout their time at school, but especially as they approached the examination period,” said Mrs Wall.

“It is a real credit to our students that so many are in such a strong position to start the next phase of their education in the sixth form at our school and to continue to develop their impressive academic record. For those who have chosen alternative pathways, their education at Urmston Grammar will provide a solid foundation for future success.

“Congratulations to all the Year 11 students at Urmston Grammar who have achieved record results.”
