SIXTH formers from Altrincham Grammar School for Boys (AGSB) have raised their pinkies – along with hundreds of pounds – in memory of a former student who died of cancer.

AGSB’s annual tea party at the Malborough Road school was held on Thursday June 16.

The tradition that was started eight years ago as a fund raising initiative for the Willow Foundation, a charity that supported AGSB student, Chad Mulholland.

Chad, 17, lost his three year battle with Hodgkin's disease in August 2008.

The Willow Foundation is a charity that arranges special days for terminally ill young people and AGSB said it is proud to support it in memory of Chad.

This year, the tea party included a ‘Bake Off’ with a Presidential theme that saw the Republicans pitted head to head with the Democrats.

Both teachers and students were in a race against time to bake the best cakes, and pupils from both Altrincham Grammar School for Boys and Altrincham Girls Grammar School attended to show their support.

Funds were raised through the auctioning off of the cakes after the competition.

Commenting on the event, sixth former student George Hallwood at AGSB, said: “We all had a lot of fun whilst raising monies for this incredible charity. After furious counting the Democrats came out on top with a 55 per cent split of the money raised.

“Clinton can only hope to replicate the success of AGSB’s finest. The icing on the cake was undoubtedly the Willow Foundation coming out as winners with £700 being raised in a single afternoon.”
