TRAFFORD College, along with partner colleges from across the region, has celebrated hosting the Greater Manchester Colleges Group (Inter Colleges) competitions, giving some of the region’s most talented students the opportunity to compete against each other and showcase their skills.

Member colleges welcomed GMCG partners to their campuses with each college hosting and coordinating a different skills competition throughout the week.

The Hospitality competition was hosted at Trafford College.

Students and tutors worked tirelessly in preparation for the competitions and were eager to put their skills to the test, producing some outstanding ideas and work along the way.

Trafford College took the lead for the group hospitality competition, which was held in the College’s Aspire Restaurant. Students showcased their skills in a number of contests including food service, table lay up, event food preparation, and bakery and pastry.

Three colleges scooped the top gongs on the day with Tameside College and Hopwood Hall picking up awards in food service and event food, and Trafford College celebrating being crowned overall winner on the day.

Trafford College students were also flying high with a number of victories at other host colleges. Highlights included first place in plumbing, first place in engineering (turning), six top three medals in hair and beauty including overall winner, five winning medals in hospitality and third place in the sports competition.

Joan Scott, assistant principal adult learning and skills, said: “Students from across all colleges made this event such a success as a result of their energy, passion and excitement for taking part in their individual competitions. The teams worked so well together and were proud to represent their colleges and see their hard work and preparation pay off.

“These talented students work incredibly hard throughout the year and this was their opportunity to showcase their skills. Congratulations to all of the students and their colleges on what was a fantastic event!”
