A SALE teacher proved he had the memory of an elephant last night in front of millions of viewers.

Barry Pedden, who has worked at St Bede’s College in Manchester for three decades, shared the stage with Bradley Walsh on Wednesday’s episode of the hit ITV show Tonight at The London Palladium.

The show is a revival of the much loved 1950s variety show Sunday Night At The London Palladium, and features big names from the worlds of music and comedy, plus jaw-dropping speciality acts, casts from West End shows and surprise guests.

It is filmed in front of a 2,200 strong audience, with surprises and prizes on offer in a weekly game.

Barry, who lives in Sale, took part in the ‘higher or lower’ game with 12 current and former students and members of staff.

“The premise is that I’ve been at St Bede’s for so long that I know everyone in the college and remember all the trivia,” said Barry.

“Around a dozen colleagues and pupils, both past and present, stood in a line and I had to say if they were older or younger. I had been kept away from all the filming during the day so it was a huge surprise to see so many familiar faces. “There were some students there who I’d taught in the 1990s. It was great fun and we all had a fabulous time in London.”

Rugby fan Barry had the chance to win two tickets to the Aviva Premiership Rugby final at Twickenham Stadium later this month. Let’s just say he has another trip to London to look forward to.
