LORETO Grammar School had a new headteacher for World Book Day as Professor Albus Dumbledore cast a spell over the staff at the Altrincham church school.

While the pupils dressed as their favourite book characters the staff all mimicked characters from the Harry Potter series.

Deputy head of sixth form Mike Dunn assumed the role of Hogwart's headmaster Albus Dumbledore, with Rebecca Amos as Professor Trelawney, Angela Webster as Professor Umbridge, Cheryl Miller as a death-eater and Sharon Hilton Jones, who also organised the event, as a dementor.

The magic of reading was also celebrated through a range of competitions, including writing the opening to a new fantasy novel and ‘staff shelfie’ competition, in which students were asked to identify their teachers from their book shelves.

However, the main event of the day was the first ever Loreto Quidditch Cup with hundreds of pupils coming to see the student teams just pip the staff to the golden snitch.
