A SALE primary school is celebrating getting top marks from the government’s education watchdog.

Wellfield Infant and Nursery School has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted following an inspection in February.

The school, which moved up from its 2011 ‘Good’ rating after scoring ‘Outstanding’ in all five areas, was commended for its ‘highly effective’ quality of teaching and a curriculum that ‘enhances pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development’.

The inspectors also lauded the governors for their ‘thorough understanding of school effective’ and the ‘skill and passion’ of head teacher Cathy Graham. Senior and middle leaders were also found to share the head teacher’s ambition to ‘reflect on their practice and constantly seek improvement’.

The report concluded that Wellfield Infant and Nursery School pupils ‘love coming to school’ and that inspectors witnessed ‘exemplary behaviour’, with staff providing excellent role models.

Head Cathy said: “The pupils here at Wellfield Infant and Nursery School in Trafford are amazing individuals and providing the best care and education possible for them all is at the heart of everything we do.

“Since my appointment in 2011, I have been overwhelmed with the enthusiasm and drive shown by all our staff and governors as they have supported me in securing ongoing school improvement year after year.

“Not forgetting too our parents and carers, who also play a vital role in all our work. We are thrilled to have Ofsted recognise our outstanding success – it is wonderful recognition of the hard work and dedication of our whole school community.”

Cllr Michael Hyman, Trafford’s executive member for Children’s Services, said the rating was a ‘very well deserved accolade’.

“Making sure that a child’s first educational experience is a positive one is something I am sure the school will continue to encourage through the excellent development and achievements of its pupils,” he added.
