KARATE kid Kay Prachunla will be taking on the world's best after being chosen to fight for England.

The Sale High School Year 11 pupil has been selected for England Kumite Squad.

Kay, 16, was born in Thailand and moved to England with her parents when she was 10.

She discovered karate when she joined Sale High and began attending weekly beginners' karate training sessions at Hale Karate Club.

She found her confidence and self-belief grew as she pushed herself in training.

She is now sports captain at the school, playing netball, badminton and rounders, as well as karate training four times a week.

As well her international commitments, Kay continues to study for her GCSEs and is on course for an A* in her PE sports studies exams.

She would like to go on to eventually teach sport in schools.

Head of PE Fiona Thomas said: “We are extremely proud of Kay, her commitment to being the best she can be is inspiring. She is a joy to teach and we wish her the best of luck with England!”
