A SURVEY has identified a Trafford school as being in the top 10 most polluted schools in the country.

Kingsway Primary School in Davyhulme has been named in the investigation carried out by the Sunday Times and based on data released by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Peter Kilvert, chairman of the Breathe Clean Air Group (BCAG) said, "Now that the Sunday Times has highlighted a Trafford School as being in the top 10 of most polluted schools in England, Trafford Council has got to take action to protect the pupils and staff of that school.

"The problem is mainly generated by the traffic exhaust along the motorway and main roads, but we believe that every industrial process that burns fuel and every additional vehicle these processes bring into our community is another nail in the coffin."

But a spokesman for Trafford Council said: "Trafford Council confirmed that it is currently monitoring air quality levels, using an automatic air quality monitoring station located at Kingsway School.

"This monitoring has shown that the measured nitrogen dioxide concentration levels at the school are well below the Government’s national air quality objective levels.

"The council will continue to monitor the situation."
