As part of their mission to improve the borough's health and social care services, Healthwatch Trafford has been busy gathering the experiences of people in the area - including schoolchildren.

Youngsters calling themselves Healthwatch Juniors, from Firs Primary School, Sale, have been working with the organisation engagement worker to look at what their school nurse service provides and to help the nurses do the best they can to keep the children healthy and happy.

A group of 10 pupils from Year Five took part in training delivered by Healthwatch Trafford and then carried out a survey with their peers to ask them how much they knew about their school nurse drop-in service, what they liked about it ans how it could be improved.

Nearly 100 children completed the survey in December 2014 and the results revealed that the majority of children weren’t sure what help the school nurse service could give.

Kim White, school nurse at Firs Primary said: "I really enjoyed working with the young people at Firs Primary. It has proved an excellent opportunity for me to raise the awareness of School Health and to listen to the ideas the young people have to make our service better."
