Help your family make a Change 4 Life
4:00pm Thursday 27th September 2012 in News
A FREE weight management group is being set up for young people and their families in Urmston, following the success of the first group held in Sale over the summer.
The 12-week course will be held on Tuesday evenings at Urmston Leisure Centre from 4.30pm to 6pm, beginning on October 2.
The group is aimed at children aged seven to 13 who have weight problems and their parents and carers.
It is being run as part of the Change 4 Life programme, which aims to help families eat well and move more to give them a healthier outlook for the future.
The fun sessions will look at practical tips on how to make healthy food choices for all the family, and the group will also be able to take part in a variety of physical activities and games.
Follow up sessions will be available after the group has finished to ensure that families are fully supported while working towards a healthier lifestyle.
Community dietitian Judith Williams, who has helped to set up the group, said: “We know that taking the first step to tackling weight management issues can be intimidating, but the groups provide a supportive environment where parents can meet other parents who share the same concerns, and children can encourage each other and have fun while learning about a healthy lifestyle.”
Families can self-refer to the programme or speak to a health professional about being referred.
