THREE women were victims of a brutal and unprovoked group attack in Sale town centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It is believed three men and one woman got out of a car they were driving down School Road and attacked the women with bottles as well as continuously punching and kicking them.

Sisters Samantha and Lauren Burke, who are 26 and 23, and their friend 23-year-old friend were left severely injured after the incident.

A bottle was smashed over Samantha’s head while another attacker stamped on Lauren’s leg, which was broken as a result.

Lauren was also knocked unconscious and has almost no recollection of the incident.

All three women suffered severe cuts and bruises during the attack.

“I just keep getting upset because I can’t remember anything, I’m struggling to understand what happened.”

Moments before the attack from the group in the car, the girls had been set upon by a couple who were walking in front of them.

Samantha said: “They were arguing and the woman accused Lauren of talking about them, the man then pushed Lauren, I stepped between them to protect my sister and he pushed me to the ground.”

It was at this point, at around 1.30am, that the other group attacked the women.

The women are all very shaken by the incident, but are determined that the offenders are brought to justice.

It is thought the group was made up of three white man and one woman of mixed heritage. The car was a red Ford Ka.

Inspector Laura Burgess, of Sale Neighbourhodd Policing Team, said: “We take violent crime very seriously, especially in town centres and near licensed premises.

“However, this is not the norm and I want people to have confidence coming into Sale town centre because it is a safe and pleasant community.”
