PLANS to regenerate Old Trafford took centre stage at the United Nations last week.
Trafford Housing Trust’s chief executive Matthew Gardiner addressed a United Nations seminar in Geneva on the role of social housing in sustainable housing developments.
In particular, his address focused on the trust’s pivotal involvement in the Old Trafford Masterplan - a multi-agency approach which aims to provide quality housing, an excellent environment, better access to training and employment and improved facilities in Old Trafford.
The conference brought together representatives from governments, academic institutions and the private sector Matthew said after his presentation on June 26: “I was delighted to join speakers from Europe, Russia and America to talk to such a distinguished audience.
“The sustainable development of an area such as Old Trafford, where value can only be unlocked in the long term, requires a holistic approach and partnership working.
“Social housing providers are best placed to be the leaders in driving forward such development, particularly in times of economic crisis, because they take account of the housing needs of the whole community, they have access to local and national subsidy, are able to attract private finance and they care about people.”
