Transport for Sick Children founder receives the MBE

HALE resident Sally Sweeney-Carroll said she feels “very proud and delighted and quite overwhelmed” to receive the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
The 63-year-old, who founded the charity Transport for Sick Children, received the honour for services to children.
Sally said: “The main award is for the transport scheme which covers the whole of Greater Manchester that I started 35 years ago. Its still a fantastic service - last year they helped 1,300 children and made 7,000 trips Isn’t it nice to be awarded for something I’m very, very proud of and its been a brilliant success.”
She said she sees her MBE as a way of promoting the charity she set up.
Sally said: “Although its my award I feel its for the work everybody does at the charity.”
She also received the MBE for her involvement with the NHS Making It Better initiative - the aims of which include making sure young people receive the best available medical services.
Sally said she received a letter from the Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley, congratulating her on receiving the MBE.
She is married to Kevin and the couple have three children, Catherine, Jane and Alice.
