Boy treated for smoke inhalation

FIREFIGHTERS dealt with a pan of food fire at a house on Stanway Street, Stretford, last Thursday night.

On the second day of Cooking Fire Safety Month, crews from Salford Fire Station were called to a terraced house at around 9.10pm following reports of a fire at a terraced house.

An 11-year-old boy, who was with a parent, suffered smoke inhalation.

He was given oxygen at the scene by the fire service and taken to hospital for further treatment.

The fire service is renewing appeals for people to be vigilant when cooking.

Chairman of the Greater Manchester Fire Authority, Cllr David Acton, said: "So many of the fires we are called to start in the kitchen through carelessness.

“It is always important to never leave cooking unattended, even to answer the phone or the door. Serious fires can start when you are distracted, even for a few seconds."
