SEVEN Trafford groups have been awarded a combined total of almost £15,000 to fund community projects.
The biggest grant of £4,500 went to Sale Moor Methodist Church to replace cooking equipment used to provide weekly meals for elderly people.
Hindu group Trafford Shankh, were awarded £2,704 to start a Hindu Faith Group, Sale West were awarded £1,000 to fund a Christmas dinner for vulnerable people and St Joseph’s were given £1,420 to continue community projects.
St Hilda's Church were awarded £1,132, which they plan to use to fund conversation classes for women whose first language isn’t English, St John's Migration Biography got £3,500 to fund an Innovative Inter-faith portrait and ‘migration biography’ project, and St John's Singers were awarded £1,500 for their singing workshops.
Executive Councillor Jonathan Coupe said: "It is vital we are able to support a diverse range of groups across our borough in enhancing community well being.
“The innovation fund gives service providers and community groups the incentive to develop what may already be thoughts they have for a new type of service.”
Trafford Council and Voluntary Community Action Trafford (VCAT) have set up a faith database and website to improve understanding of faith groups in the borough.
Faith groups can use the website, which is due to go live at Easter, to link up, discuss local issues and access contacts.
