SHOPPERS visiting Stretford Mall proved both just how generous they are and that they’ve got an eye for a bargain, after more than £3,000 was raised in the British Heart Foundation (BHF) sofa sale.

The Stretford Mall and Sale branches of the BHF Home Stores came together to offer a range of sofas for just £50 and shoppers responded in their droves, with more than 40 being sold in just a three-day period.

All of the money raised, including the delivery charge, will go to help the BHF fight coronary heart disease – the UK’s single biggest killer.

“I’d like to thank everyone who bought a sofa as part of our special event,” said Jodie Bernstein, Sale BHF store manager.

“Selling more than 40 couches was way more than we expected and I’m stunned at how much money we’ve been able to generate for the charity.

"This was about raising all-important funds for BHF, whilst helping shoppers grab a bargain. We never thought we’d get a response like this.”

Stretford Mall centre manager, Gareth Wilkins, said he was delighted to be able to support BHF.

He said: “Once again, our shoppers have proven just how generous they are.

“To raise more than £3,000 in just three days is remarkable and I’m thrilled we’ve been able to be a part of it.

“The couches sold on the day were of real quality and it was great to see so many people here making purchases and helping a worthwhile cause. I know Jodie and her team are over the moon.”
