FESTIVAL fever came to Hale Barns over the weekend as thousands of people enjoyed the village's inaugural carnival.

More than 400 performers took to the main stage over the two day Hale Barns Carnival, with highlights during the day including Sale Brass Band, Altrincham Fringe and talented dance troupes entertaining the crowds.

On Sunday evening disco legends Odyssey took to the stage, while on Saturday there was a Night of the Proms. Acts included De Voci Choir, Kaleidoscope Big Band and vocalists Amanda Heywood and Scarlett Quigley.

Organiser Max Eden said: "I am so grateful to everyone that came out and supported Hale Barns Carnival.

"I would like to thank all the other volunteers who have really got behind me and after 16 weeks of work, it's all been worth it.

"We are all volunteers just wanting to bring a great event to Hale Barns and I think we have done that for sure."

Other attractions  included the Makers Market, which showcased a fantastic selection of independent traders selling a wide range of bespoke products and artisan food while Robinsons Brewery had a thirst quenching bar with deckchairs to enjoy the fun. There was a funfair and a selection of classic cars at the event, held on the St Ambrose College Playing Fields,.

The Saturday evening concert opened with an-80 piece rock choir, leading to fantastic choir performances from De Voci Choir and Kaleidoscope Big Band.

Max said: "That got everyone clapping along in anticipation for stellar performances from two female vocalists; Amanda Heywood who delivered a soulful performance featuring songs 'At Last' and the 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face'.

"Teenage soprano sensation; Scarlett Quigley got the crowd to their feet as she belted out the anthems complete with a spectacular firework display above the stage."

He added: "Odyssey perform a very special concert at the carnival, and revellers were entertained prior to their performance by resident DJ and wedding band Groovy Revolution who got the crowd going ready for Odyssey to take to the stage and give an outstanding performance.

"The crowd loved every minute and everyone was dancing and having a fantastic time."
