STRETFORD and Urmston MP Kate Green has expressed her concern about cuts to the numbers of police officers and firefighters in Greater Manchester.

Statistics from the Home office have revealed that, police office numbers in Greater Manchester have been cut by 1,850 since 2010.

The figures also showed that, across the country there has been a 13.7 per cent reduction in the total number of police officers in England and Wales since 2010.

Figures from the Fire Brigades Union also revealed that the region has lost almost 700 firefighters since 2010, a cut of nearly 35 per cent.

Ms Green said: “These job cuts in our emergency services are shocking.

“Cuts to the police force and fire service endanger communities and endanger officers too.

"A Labour government will recruit 10,000 more police officers to work on community beats and 3,000 new firefighters to keep our communities safe.”
