THE Friends of Timperley's Pickering Lodge Park, have succeeded in getting the goal posts reinstated 12 months after they were removed.

The goalposts, which were taken out by Amey (contractors to Trafford Council), a year ago were finally replaced at the end of April.

The friends group is a small voluntary community body which works to improve the park and where possible, ensures that Amey maintains the park effectively.

A friends spokesman said: "Whilst the replacement of the goal posts by Amey took considerably longer than expected, the reinstatement of the posts has been welcomed by local residents and are now in frequent use."

The group has also seen that the bowling green building was pointed and new guttering installed.

The next stage will include the creation of a mural, being designed and developed by pupils from Wellington Academy, to feature on the back of the building.

Recent activities undertaken by the group includes the planting of bulbs, weeding, plant maintenance and litter picks.

In response to feedback from local residents on the group's website about concern expressed about dog owners using the tennis courts as a play area for their dogs, the group has subsequently liaised with Trafford Council to put up ‘no dogs’ signs at the gates to the tennis club.

New volunteers are always welcome and there are gardening and tidying sessions held in the park on the second Saturday of the month, from 10.30am until 11.30am
