POLICE are urging homeowners to be vigilant after a bogus workman was seen trying to trick people into forking out cash in Altrincham.

Officers received reports of a man knocking on doors in Weldon Road at around 10.30am on Wednesday May 17.

The man offered to do work for one resident for £50, purporting to be carrying out a job on her next door neighbour’s house.

The homeowner sent the man away, saying she didn’t need any work done around the house. She later spoke to her neighbour, who confirmed that the man was not been working on their home.

The man is described as white, approx. mid 30s, of stocky build, around 5ft 1”, and wearing jeans, a blue jumper and a cap, which was speckled with paint.

A spokesperson for GMP Trafford South said: “Always avoid cold callers and door to door sales people.”

Call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you have any information.
